Meet The Team
George Barreto
About George Barreto
George grew up in a Victorian home in San Francisco, surrounded by its distinctive architecture, his appreciation of history started there. At an early age, both George and his sister befriended any feral cat that showed up at their back door. His grandfather’s cat, Harriett, a tuxedo, would often observe them while George learned to play chess.
He attended SFSU and earned a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Economics. He taught Political Science at Skyline and Chabot Community Colleges in the Bay Area. He later shifted his focus and worked on computers at Logitech. When George moved to Rocklin in 1993, he continued in this field at NEC and other computer companies. He obtained his MCSE certification in 2002.
From 2002 to 2009 George worked with his best friend managing three stores. This ended in 2013 with his friend’s passing. George then turned to property management with his wife, Angie. When their last cat passed in early 2014, George remembered an organization called FieldHaven. Upon entering the shelter for the first time, both were struck by the surroundings, the facility, the staff and volunteers, and the mutual altruism that hovers over FieldHaven.
After adopting a tuxedo they named Zorro, Angie and George attended their first Classics, Cats & Cabernet fundraising event in 2014. Angie began volunteering in 2014 and eventually became a Board Member; currently, she is the volunteer coordinator for the organization. When looking for part-time work in 2015, an opportunity presented itself to work at FieldHaven. George found himself offered the position as assistant manager at the soon-to-be opened Marketplace. In July of 2016, he was offered and accepted the position of Store Manager. He continues in this role.
